Natural Skin and Body Care
By Tracy Neely

Vitamin Cocktail for the Skin
Today I woke up feeling refreshed and wanted to do something extra special for my skin. I love the smell of apples as they simmer, they remind me of the holidays so I decided to create a skin refiner (exfoliant) that will leave your skin feeling simply marvelous.

Apple (Green)
Apple’s are a rich source of flavonoids and polyphenol, which are powerful antioxidants. Malic acid an alpha hydroxy acid derived from apples, provides antioxidant actions and assists in skin exfoliation, to gently exfoliate and brighten the skin. Green apple also contains Vitamins A, B and C to brighten and tone the skin as well as Quercetin to calm redness.

Lemon Zest
The zest of the lemon is the outer skin which contains volatile oils and when blended with honey makes an extremely powerful exfoliant for the skin.

Honey
Honey is a by-product of honey bees when they collect the flower nectar in their mouths and the nectar mixes with enzymes and then it is turned into honey. Raw honey is honey that has not been heated for pasteurization, filtered or strained to remove the wax, pollen or propolis. Honey is a natural humectant that attracts and binds water to the upper layers of the skin.

yogurt
Yogurt (Whole Milk, Plain)
Yogurt is a cultured product made from the natural bacterial fermentation of milk. Fermentation of the milk sugar (lactose) produces lactic acid which is an alpha hydroxy acid. Used in skin care treatments, lactic acid has the ability to digest skin cells and improve the texture of skin making it one of the best alpha hydroxy acids for sensitive skin. Yogurt is an effective ingredient in skin care treatments and allows the outer layers of your skin to release and shed over a few days, stimulating new cell growth in the skin's deepest layers. With its natural antibacterial and antifungal agents, it assists in getting rid of germs and bacteria that plague the skin.

Recipe
1 Green apple
1 Tbsp lemon zest
1 Tbsp honey
2 Tbsp yogurt

Core and slice green apple and place in a blender. Add the lemon zest, honey and yogurt and blend into a creamy smooth mixture. Apply entire mixture to a cleansed face and leave on for 20 minutes, if you have sensitive skin leave mixture on between 5 to 10 minutes. Rinse will cool water and apply your favorite moisturizer.

Enjoy!

Feature Article: Four Great Reasons To Eat More Raw, Organic Food
by Dr Tel-Oren of www.ecopolitan.com.

What would you give for fewer colds/allergies, more energy, a slender body, a sharper mind, clear skin, better digestion, and slashed risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, gallstones, infections, and premature death? No drug or surgery or supplement can give you all these. But a natural diet and lifestyle can.

1. Your Body and Your Health
The scientific evidence supporting a plant-based diet is so overwhelming that the meat and dairy industries have resorted to billion-dollar image campaigns to boost sales. But slick ads and misinformation cannot fool us forever. Americans are turning away from drug-and-cut medicine, as they learn that vegetarians need it less.

The scientific evidence supporting a raw diet is less extensive, but growing. For example, scientists have known for years that cooking destroys nutrients (vitamins, antioxidants, enzymes) and creates toxins (trans fats, cross-linked proteins, heterocyclic amines). But new studies show that cooking starchy foods creates acrylamide, a potent carcinogen.

Think about it. Our species is the only one on Earth that chemically alters its food with heat. Animals that eat and live naturally don't get our epidemics of chronic disease.

2. Your Earth
If everyone shifted to organic plant food, the destruction of our planet would slow to a crawl. Chemical agriculture causes massive erosion, water and air pollution, and fossil fuel consumption. Animal agriculture is the number one cause of vanishing aquifers, poisoned groundwater, huge coastal "dead zones", vanishing rainforests, mass extinction, and is a major cause of global warming (floods droughts, ecosystem collapse).

Many people are concerned about our fragile blue-and-green home. They want something left for their children and grandchildren. They don't realize that the most powerful single action they can take, according to environmental scientists, is to change what they eat.

3. Your fellow creatures
Modern factory farms are not like the idyllic barnyards in storybooks. Billions of cows, pigs and chickens are now treated very badly, and suffer greatly throughout their lives. Overcrowding, filth, mutilation, appalling diets, drugs and hormones, sped-up production, and other abuses (even of "free-range" animals) make them sick and constantly terrified. Roughly 50% of dairy cows have mastitis (infected udders). When slaughtered, 70% of pigs have pneumonia, and 90% of chickens have leukosis (cancer).

Some people say that bringing the flesh of tortured animals into our bodies brings misery into our spirits. We can't prove that, but animal food definitely brings greater risk of infection with deadly bacteria, cancer-causing viruses, and prions (Mad Cow disease).

It's no fun to think about the suffering in the world, especially when you can do nothing about it. But you can do something about this. You can satisfy your needs for nutrition and eating pleasure with plant foods, and reduce the torture of creatures with nerves and feelings much like yours.

4. Joy and Pleasure
Around the world (Europe, Asia, Australia) and across the country (New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and now Minneapolis), people are waking up to the benefits of a natural diet-including the joy. There is deep satisfaction in giving your body the highest-quality fuel for which it is well designed . . . aging slower instead of faster . . . getting healthier instead of sicker . . . and making the world a little better instead of a little worse.

You need not sacrifice taste. Over time, people shifting to a raw vegan diet grow to love Nature's vast bounty of different flavors. But beginners can enjoy them too.

You can visit Dr. T’s resources at Ecopolitan.com, and we suggest reading the resources on Electomagnetic Pollution as well as this extensive list of common illnesses and conditions in the body with some of their recommended solutions and proposed causes explained in detail.

Good News Worth Sharing
We wanted to follow up by sharing an email we got from one of our Green Smoothie Day Grand Prize winners. Blendtec generously sponsored not one, but TWO Blendtec Total Blenders and here’s what Doris had to say about her new Blendtec:

blendtecHappy Friday lovely!

Well it's been just over a week since I popped open that k-tec box. I was making a big delicious batch of almond milk for my son the other night and thinking how the blender has already changed my life.

That thing is so powerful! The morning after I got it I let everyone know that smoothies are back. Soon I had six orders, the most I have ever had for one day!  I had been using the old Oster to make my daily green smoothies so when I started whipping up the greens and frozen mango with my little blendtec baby, man I was loving the power.

I had found a comparison chart of the blendtec, Vitamix and my old L'equip (actually it was my mom's and I kinda took it over).  So Blendtec has the most power of all of them, more than three times the power that L'eqiup has. Also a really sharp and wide blade.

Back at work everyone noticed the new and improved texture to the smoothies- sooooo smooth!  I had been putting off my marketing and reaching out to others who might be interested in the product. I know that when I do that I will be inundated with orders and need a blender that can handle it. Now I have it!!

So my focus right now is getting some time away from the 9-5 and school, to make up some business cards, brochures and to spiff the website. I am just preparing myself for the awesome response that I know I will get, which will eventually take me to a place where I can quit the 9-5 and be a full-time Green Smoothie Goddess.  Then one day I will be ordering my own professional Blendtec's with my logo on the sides of the carafe. Oh yeah I have it all planned out! I love dreaming big.  I am just so grateful for you Divas and to Blendtec for giving me this boost.  Well I could go on forever.

blendtecSo just to finish up I have to say the greatest triumph that this blender has provided me is not the business boost, but the mere fact that I finally started making almond milk to replace my son's soy milk.  I use the whole juice mode and it made the best almond milk.  The milk is pretty smooth without even being strained, but when I do strain- oh man it is so easy, no more big chunks of almond in my nut milk bag like before- no sir.

Now my baby has fresh almond milk made for him at request.  Since this blender makes it so efficiently I now realized that making him raw almond milk isn't expensive as I thought it would be. This morning he asked for his "ba-ba" as he always does when awaking. I brought him his cup and he asked "what kind of milk is it?' I replied " almond milk that I made with cinnamon and honey" he had the biggest smile. I know he could tell it was love milk from mama- better than any store bought soy-milk!  I will keep you updated with the business happenings, pictures and eventually videos.

Time to manifest a video camera!
