Juicy Treats: Banana Mango Ice Cream
by Wendy Larson

  • 2 Frozen Banana's
  • 1 C Frozen Mango (Or so)
  • A few Frozen Berries for a color swirl.

I run a Banana through the Champion Juicer, then the Mango, berries, and finally the Banana again.

It makes a wonderful "soft" serve low fat ice cream.

You can also make it in the Blendtec Blender, but you need to cut the fruit into small pieces.

I drizzle it with a tablespoon of Raw Almond Butter in the winter...

Diva Declutter Tips

In preparation for our upcoming 30 Day Clutter Busting program, with Vanessa Stewart, we have been getting some great feedback from clients. We thought we'd take a moment to forward this clever little trick from Mary C.

"Today, I found an amazing place called "ReStore". It is run by Habitat for Humanity. If you (or your readers) find excess building materials in your home (such as extra floor tile from a remodeling job) or have serviceable, but unneeded appliances, you can take them to Restore (or have them pick up). These items will then be used to help less fortunate folks in their own remodeling jobs.

There are Restore locations in many cities in the United States and Canada.

Here is a blurb from their website:

"Habitat ReStores are retail outlets where quality used and surplus building materials are sold at a fraction of normal prices. Proceeds from Restores help local affiliates fund the construction of Habitat houses within the community. Many affiliates across the United States and Canada operate successful Restores-some of which raise enough funds to build an additional 10 or more houses per year.

Materials sold by Habitat Restores are usually donated from building supply stores, contractors, demolition crews or from individuals who wish to show their support for Habitat. In addition to raising funds, Restores help the environment by rechanneling good, usable materials into use."

Cheers,
Mary C.

How To Host A Raw Food Dinner Party That'll Knock Their Cooked Socks Off!
By Angela Elliot

First of all, we'd like to draw your attention to a recent blog entry by Katy Joy Freeman in California. She includes loads of recipes from Angela Elliot's Alive in 5, and there is no question that Angela has the art of hosting dinner parties down to a blind-folded art. So we thought we'd ask her for her top 5 tips for hosting a Knock-Out Raw Food Dinner Party!

  1. Most people love wine, so be sure to have plenty of good organic wine to serve your guests, if you are in to that sort of thing, that is!

  2. Serve many dishes...... The French people have this down to a science, they serve anywhere from a seven course meal to a 9 course meal, being careful to bring one thing out at a time, and each dish is small and beautiful and make sure you finish with a fabulous dessert!

  3. I love to have ice sculptures at parties where I serve raw gourmet ice cream or a lovely chocolate mousse. You can find ice sculpture molds online or at any gourmet cooking store.

  4. Be kind to the environment with real silverware, glasses with jewels, (if you serve wine or any fancy alcohol free drink) plates, bowls, washable napkins, etc.

  5. If you hold the party on a deck or a patio, use elegant fairy lights and have pretty music playing in the background, but not so loud that your party guests can't hold conversations.

If you think you'll be able to impress the guests without pulling out some sweet treats and fancy desserts, THINK AGAIN!

Sometimes fruit platters just don't cut the mustard.

Natural Skin and Body Care: Citrus Facial Cleanser
By Tracy Neely

Every now and then I think our skin needs a little zap to stir up those skin cells, kick them into gear to restore healthy radiant skin.

Lemon Pulp
The pulp of fresh lemons has such a pure essence and makes this cleanser really pop!

Lemon Zest
The zest of the lemon is the outer skin which contains volatile oils and when blended with honey, yogurt and oats makes an extremely powerful exfoliant for the skin.

Raw Honey
Honey is a by-product of honey bees when they collect the flower nectar in their mouths and the nectar mixes with enzymes and then it is turned into honey. Raw honey is honey that has not been heated for pasteurization, filtered or strained to remove the wax, pollen or propolis. Honey is a natural humectant that attracts and binds water to the upper layers of the skin.

Yogurt (Whole Milk, Plain)
Yogurt is a cultured product made from the natural bacterial fermentation of milk. Fermentation of the milk sugar (lactose) produces lactic acid which is an alpha hydroxy acid. Used in skin care treatments, lactic acid has the ability to digest skin cells and improve the texture of skin making it one of the best alpha hydroxy acids for sensitive skin. Yogurt is an effective ingredient in skin care treatments and allows the outer layers of your skin to release and shed over a few days, stimulating new cell growth in the skin's deepest layers.

Oats (Finely Ground)
Finely ground oats can be incorporated into your favorite facial cleanser to act as an exfoliant to remove the dead skin cells. Ground oats are a natural exfoliant and when they are added to skin cleansers they are good at removing dirt, dust, makeup, and excess facial oil without altering the skin's natural acidic barrier.

Lemon Water (alkalizing beverage)
The combination of organic lemons and filtered water make this a refreshing alkalizing drink to jump start your cleansing treatment as well as cleanse the liver and kidneys while providing the body with minerals that are essential for good health.

Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe Vera comes from the aloe vera plant Aloe barbadensis and is a succulent plant native to the dessert in Africa. The sap from the aloe plant has anti-inflammatory properties and is widely used as a salve to soothe burned or wounded skin.

Diva Beauty Note: It would be wonderful to use the sap from the leaves of the aloe vera plant, however you may also use 99% pure aloe vera gel.

Recipe for facial cleanser
1 Tbsp. Lemon pulp
1 Tbsp lemon zest
1 Tsp honey
2 Tbsp yogurt
1 Tbsp ground oats
1 Tbsp aloe vera gel

Scoop out the seeds from the inside of the lemon unless you have a powerful blender and blend the inside of the lemon and set it aside. Zest the lemon and blend and set aside. Blend the rolled or steel cut oats into a fine powder and set aside. Combine the lemon pulp, honey, yogurt and aloe vera gel and mix thoroughly. Add the lemon zest and ground oats into the liquid mixture and combine all ingredients completely.

Spread cleanser over entire face avoiding the eye area and massage gently using circular strokes. Rinse with cool water and apply your favorite moisturizer.

Recipe for lemon water
1 organic lemon
8 oz. filtered water

Roll lemon on counter to release more of the juice. Squeeze lemon into filtered water and enjoy.

Enjoy!
