Beauty Tips for Healthy, Younger Looking Skin

Herbal Masque Rreatment for Acne Blemishes
During that time of the month, when you are feeling overly stressed, blemishes will sometimes appear when you least expect it. There is a difference between skin that has clogged pores and an inflammatory disease called acne.
There are several factors that can lead to clogged pores including dirt being trapped in the pores, skin that is dehydrated, excessive sweating, buildup of dead skin cells, improper cleaning, the use of skin care products not compatible with your skin type or condition and a diet high in sugar.
Acne is an inflammatory disease of the sebaceous glands and hair follicles that takes place when there is an over production of sebum in the oil glands. A large percentage of acne starts in puberty when the male sex hormones, called androgens, increase in both girls and boys, causing the sebaceous glands to become more active and ultimately producing more oil. When pores become engorged with excess oil and dead skin cells, it creates an anaerobic environment where P. acnes can flourish.
Adult acne has many triggers, but what I see too often in clients is emotional anxiety which plays a major role in creating breakouts on the skin. When you become stressed, your adrenal glands produce a high level hormone called cortisol, which is known as the “stress hormone”. A healthy lifestyle will minimize the stress in your life and a few ways to relieve stress are to incorporate a balanced diet into your life, get the body moving with a good amount of physical exercise and take time out of your day to enjoy activities that bring you joy.
This herbal masque recipe is suited for all skin types and can be used twice a week to decrease the amount of sebum clogging the pores which will ultimately lead to smoother skin.
French Green Clay
French green clay, known as illite, is a 100% natural bio-organic material. Over thousands of years in the earth it absorbs a wealth of essential healing minerals from the plant kingdom including Silica, Magnesium, Calcium, Iron, Potassium, Cobalt, Manganese, Zinc, Selenium, Copper, Aluminum, Phosphorous, & Sodium. After removal from the ground the illite is naturally sun-dried, capturing the solar energy which activates the vital minerals and trace elements within.
French green clay takes its name from the fact that rock quarries located in southern France enjoyed a virtual monopoly on its production until similar deposits of illite clays were identified in China, Montana, and Wyoming. The clay's green color comes from a combination of iron oxides and decomposed plant matter, mostly kelp seaweed and other algae
It is regarded as a beneficial treatment for stimulating the skin and removing impurities from the epidermis (outermost layer of skin cells). The clay works by adsorbing impurities as well as excessive oil from the skin cells and the clay also has the ability to cause dead cells to slough off which lead to healthier skin cells.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree essential oil (Melaleuca alternifolia), is steam distilled from the leaves and twigs of the paperbark tree native to Australia. It is well known for its anti-fungal, anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties. There are close to 300 varieties of Melaleuca alternifolia (the Latin name for the tea tree), but only one produces the therapeutic oil so beneficial in skin care treatments.
Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe Vera comes from the aloe vera plant Aloe barbadensis and is a succulent plant native to the dessert in Africa. The sap from the aloe plant has anti-inflammatory properties and can greatly reduce swelling and inflammation surrounding the blemish area.
Recipe
4 TBS. French Green Clay
4 TBS. Aloe Vera Gel
3 Drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
Combine french green clay with aloe vera gel, add tea tree oil and stir the mixture until it is a smooth paste - add more clay or aloe vera if needed. Apply 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick layer of the paste to the face and let it dry. Drying times vary, but times are generally 5 minutes for delicate skin and 15- 20 minutes for normal skin. You will feel a pulling and tightening sensation on the skin which is normal. Once masque is completely removed, rinse face with cool water and apply your favorite moisturizer.
Beauty Tip: Please be sure to wet the masque completely with cool water before gently removing the masque with a wet cloth.
Enjoy!
With love from Tracy!

What Do Those Recycling Numbers Mean?
by Tracy Neely
I started thinking about how many items we recycle in our house, but I have to admit that even though we pride ourselves on doing what we can to recycle, I still think there is so much more we can do. In the beginning we when first started recycling, my husband was slow to the process because it just seemed so foreign to him. After repeating myself with what seemed like a million times, he finally gets it now.
Let’s do what we can to alleviate the amount of plastics that we use in our homes and in our personal lives, but in those instances when we do have a need to use plastic items, please recycle and save less from going to the landfill. Have you ever looked at an item and looked at the number on the bottom and asked yourself, “what does this mean, can I recycle it”, well I wanted to give you some info. that may help you to recycle more items in your household.
• 1 or PET = Polyethylene terephthalate (e.g., soda drink bottles and water bottles)
• 2 or HDPE = High–density polyethylene (e.g., milk bottles, detergent, and oil bottles)
• 3 or PVC = Polyvinyl chloride (e.g., food trays, detergent bottles, food wrap, vegetable oil bottles, blister packaging, pipes)
• 4 or LDPE = Low-density polyethylene (e.g., plastic bags, bin liners, sandwich/bread bags)
• 5 or PP = Polypropylene (e.g., margarine tubs, straws, refrigerated containers, screw-on bottle tops/lids, some carpets, some food wrap)
• 6 or PS = Polystyrene (e.g. yogurt cups, Styrofoam cups, throwaway utensils, meat packing)
• 7 other = Polycarbonate, acrylic (combine various plastics with different properties in layers with different properties. These are common in food products such as cheese wrap.)
Green Note: Please check with your local recyclers to find out what types of plastics are recycled in your area. Please remember to rinse all items of any food residue before recycling.
Natural Homemade Carpet Deodorizer
There are many carpet deodorizers on the market today which contain toxic chemicals that may actually be harmful to pets and small children. An alternative to these commercial carpet deodorizers would be a “green” alternative deodorizer that you make yourself, using baking soda, an odor neutralizer to remove the odor from your carpet, not cover it up.
Recipe
• 25 drops Lavender
• 15 drops Tea Tree
• 10 drops Lemon
• 1 16 ounce box of baking soda
Add the baking soda to a large glass or ceramic bowl, anything but plastic and then add the essential oils. Be sure to completely mix the essential oils into the baking soda especially the lemon because of its yellow color it could stain your carpet if not mixed completely.
You may change the blend if you prefer different oils, but these particular essential oils in this recipe provide antibacterial and disinfectant properties and are especially helpful in high traffic areas or if you have pets or children. After blending the essential oils into the baking soda, the deodorizer can be stored in a glass jar or airtight container.
Instructions for Use: Sprinkle the deodorizer onto your carpet. You may use any type of clean container with holes to dispense the deodorizer onto your carpet. Allow the deodorizer to sit on your carpet for at least 30 minutes or more and then vacuum normally. You can also apply the deodorizer at night before you retire for bed and then vacuum in the morning. If you have dark carpets I would not leave on overnight.
Green Tip: The deodorizer will penetrate deeper into the fibers if you vacuum the carpets before applying the deodorizer.
