The Best of HHH: Kitchen Tips

Kitchen Tip #1: AMY'S CRAZY MANGO PEELING TECHNIQUE

Did you know that there is a really easy way to get those juicy mangos out of their skins? There is! Just hold your mango stem-end up on a cutting board. Using a nice sharp knife, cut the mango from top to bottom, parallel to, and as close to the pit as you can. Repeat again on the other side of the pit. Trim as much of the remaining fruit from the pit as you can.

Now here’s the fun part! One at a time, take your 2 big pieces of mango in one hand and with the other, take a small drinking glass and slide the edge of it up the inner edge of the skin. The mango flesh and most of the juice will slide right into your glass!

Trim any skin from the other bits of fruit and you’re all set!

How to Ripen a Pineapple

We found this online a few weeks ago and sadly aren't sure who the wise Diva was who shared this handy advice... If you happen to know, please tell us! Here's the tip:

Take the tines of a fork and stick holes in the stem end of the pineapple and place it in a saucer with about 1 and 1/2 inhes of water and leave it in the sun for a day or so. The green will disappear and it will begin to smell sweet and turn yellow.

What to do when your smoothie ingredients just don’t budge in the blender?

Grab a stick of celery to stir things around! You’ll be adding valuable minerals to your favorite smoothie, and you’ll avoid the unpleasant experience of chunks of wooden spoon in you smoothie!

Tempting Treats
By Amy De Wolfe

Having trouble keeping inspired on your raw adventures when the rest of the family is still under the spell of processed foods?

Each day, place an attractively arranged plate or bowl of sliced fruits, cut up veggies (we loving refer to these as veggie pickers), or lettuce wraps on your table or counter. Any time you are being tempted by your old health-challenged standbys, dive into that plate and enjoy!

You'll be even happier when you find an empty plate, ravanged by the rest of the family!

If you’ve never tried a flexible cutting board then you must hit the local kitchen supply store to get one. Usually they are very inexpensive, but when you’re cutting and chopping juicy raw foods, these flexible cutting boards are simply the best. You just fold it up, and dump the trimmings in the compost bin!

blenderAre you frustrated by green smoothie stuck to the inside of your blender? The best way to quickly and effectively clean your blender after an intense round of smoothie making is to fill your blender jug about 1/3 full of warm water, place it back on it's base and give it a high-speed workout for a minute or 2. Rinse and repeat if necessary, but often one go is enough to make it sparkle!
